Oasis at Gillette Stadium: Boston History and the 2027 Shows

Based on the archives and date ranges checked in this pass, we could not verify an earlier Oasis performance at Gillette Stadium. Every verified Boston area Oasis show found predates the stadium opening in 2002, or took place at Mansfield in 2001 and 2005, or took place in Boston theatres and clubs. A final implementation check should still run the stadium operator event archive and a Pollstar search for Oasis plus Gillette before the finding is stated in its strongest form.

Opened
11 May 2002 first official event, Revolution versus Dallas Burn; grand opening 9 September 2002
Former name
CMGI Field, before opening, before Gillette naming rights
Tenants
New England Patriots and New England Revolution, both from 2002
Capacity
No single figure is published as both football and concert capacity; site data gives 65,000, secondary sources give 64,628, 65,878 football, about 70,000 concerts, and a 71,723 single event record

The venue and its history, and a naming tension to handle plainly

The site is branded for search as Boston, but the venue city is Foxborough. The history page must say this plainly in its opening: Boston is the market name, Foxborough is the venue location, and Gillette Stadium is not in Boston itself. Do not write Foxborough, Boston as a single place name. Use Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, in the Boston area.

Foxborough approved the stadium plans on 6 December 1999, and work began on 24 March 2000. The new stadium replaced the adjacent Foxboro Stadium, also written Foxborough Stadium in some sources. Foxboro Stadium concert history must not be transferred to Gillette Stadium.

The first official event was on 11 May 2002, when the New England Revolution beat Dallas Burn 2-0 in an MLS game. The grand opening was on 9 September 2002, with the Patriots unveiling a Super Bowl XXXVI championship banner before a Monday Night Football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The stadium was originally known as CMGI Field before opening, before Gillette bought the naming rights. The Gillette name was retained after Procter and Gamble acquired Gillette in 2005, with a partnership extension announced in September 2010 through the 2031 season in the secondary account, which is Low confidence for exact contract wording without a primary announcement.

The home tenants are the New England Patriots in the NFL and the New England Revolution in MLS, both from 2002 to the present in the sources checked. The stadium also served as a part-time or higher-attendance home for UMass Minutemen football in 2012 and 2013, and through 2018 for selected games, while the on-campus stadium was renovated.

A first concert claim must be handled with care. Jeremiah Freed was the opening band at the WBCN River Rave on 9 June 2002 and is described as the first band to play at the stadium. The Rolling Stones played on 5 September 2002 on the Licks Tour, and some secondary sources call this the first concert at Gillette Stadium. Those wordings conflict unless the distinction is first full headline concert versus first band appearance at a radio event, so no first concert label is published here without that distinction and a primary promoter or stadium source. A 2023 north end renovation, reported at 250 million dollars with a 218 foot lighthouse, an enlarged concourse and a large outdoor curved videoboard, is Low to Medium confidence, and superlatives in secondary sources must be checked against the stadium operator before publication. Patriot Place, a shopping, dining and entertainment complex, sits adjacent to the stadium, and event day MBTA commuter rail service is reported at Foxboro station for selected games and concerts, which must be confirmed for the specific event at implementation.

Oasis at Gillette Stadium

No result returned a pre-2027 Oasis show at Gillette Stadium in the archives and ranges checked: setlist.fm Oasis pages for Boston and Mansfield, Oasis tour lists for 1994 to 2009, the Oasis Gigography for 1995 and 2001, Ticketmaster and SeatGeek Live '27 listings for 2027, and web searches for Oasis plus Gillette Stadium.

The negative finding is strong but not absolute for the reason given in the introduction: the band had no verified Boston area show in 2008 in the sources checked, and no Boston show on the Live '25 North American leg in 2025, which listed Chicago, East Rutherford, Pasadena, Toronto and Mexico City, with no Boston date. The 2027 shows are 10, 13 and 14 August 2027, as headliners, announced. No setlist for 2027 is confirmed in this pass, and the 2025 setlist must not be presented as the 2027 setlist.

Oasis in the Boston area at other venues

The scope used here is Boston city venues, plus Mansfield, which is the Boston area amphitheatre market about 30 miles south of Boston and is repeatedly listed as Boston in tour records. Providence, Rhode Island, is not counted as Boston, even though it appears next to Boston dates in tour timelines.

Local 186 in Boston hosted a club show in October 1994, on the Definitely Maybe tour. Setlist.fm gives 21 October 1994, while a Boston.com reader recollection gives 24 October 1994 in Allston, and the setlist.fm page has no songs and only three users marked as attending, so only October 1994 is published here. Avalon in Boston hosted Oasis on 11 March 1995, on the Definitely Maybe tour, with a 15-song setlist listed on setlist.fm, ending with a Beatles cover, I Am the Walrus, used only as a setlist.fm corroborated list, not as a primary source claim.

The Orpheum Theatre in Boston hosted Oasis on 14 October 1995, on the Morning Glory era US tour, broadcast by WBCN, and again on 27 April 2000, on the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour, with Travis listed as the other act on the setlist.fm page for 2000. The Gigography notes for 1995 that Liam had vocal trouble and Noel took lead vocals after Champagne Supernova, but that anecdote is fan archive material, not a primary source fact, unless a WBCN or press source is found. Capacity given as 2,675 in the Gigography is not a verified attendance figure.

The Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts in Mansfield hosted Oasis on 11 June 2001, on the Tour of Brotherly Love, as co-headliner with the Black Crowes, not sole headliner, with Spacehog also listed on the setlist.fm venue page. The same venue hosted Oasis on 24 June 2005, on the Do Not Believe the Truth tour, as headliner, with Jet listed as support in search results. A fan tour record claims a sold out crowd of 19,900 for 2005, which is the venue capacity figure, not a verified attendance count, so no attendance is published for 2005. The Mansfield venue name history is Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts from 1986 to 1999, Tweeter Center from 1999 to 2008, Comcast Center from 2008 to 2013, and Xfinity Center from 2014 to the present. The 2001 and 2005 Oasis shows were at the same Mansfield amphitheatre under the Tweeter name, not at Gillette Stadium and not in Boston city.

  • October 1994: Local 186, Boston, club show, exact day disputed
  • 11 March 1995: Avalon, Boston
  • 14 October 1995: Orpheum Theatre, Boston, broadcast by WBCN
  • 27 April 2000: Orpheum Theatre, Boston
  • 11 June 2001: Tweeter Center, Mansfield, co-headline with the Black Crowes
  • 24 June 2005: Tweeter Center, Mansfield, headliner

A postponed Boston show

A Fleet Pavilion show in Boston on 10 August 2002 was postponed, not completed on that date. An Epic Records press release reproduced on 8 August 2002 says the Philadelphia Tower Theater show on 9 August and the Boston Fleet Pavilion show on 10 August were postponed after a further medical examination of Noel Gallagher following a car accident found whiplash and shock, with complete rest ordered for three days. Fleet Pavilion is not FleetCenter and is not Gillette Stadium. Whether the Boston show was later rescheduled on a different date was not found in the research pass, so it must not be called cancelled outright without a rescheduling check, and it must not be called completed.

Early reports in 2024 to 2025 mentioned Boston as a possible North American stop for Live '25, but the announced Live '25 North American dates did not include Boston. That is reporting speculation, not a cancelled Boston show, and it is mentioned here only to explain why Boston fans waited until 2027. No specific Boston cancellation for the late summer 1996 US leg was found, and no Boston cancellation for 1996 is invented here.

Liam and Noel Gallagher solo in Boston, separately

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds played the Wang Theatre in Boston on 12 November 2011. Beady Eye, fronted by Liam Gallagher, with Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, played House of Blues Boston on 10 December 2011, as a post-Oasis band, not Oasis and not a Liam solo headline show. Liam Gallagher solo played House of Blues Boston on 25 November 2017, on the As You Were North American tour. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds co-headlined with Garbage at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on 15 July 2023, with Metric listed as support in some tour listings. That venue name must not be shortened to Fenway Park.

A false lead is excluded here: The Who, with special guest Peter Wolf, played Fenway Park in Boston on 13 September 2019. Early listings for the Who Moving On tour show Liam as a special guest on other dates, but the Boston date lists Peter Wolf, so Liam at Fenway Park in 2019 must not be included. No Liam or Noel solo show in 2022 or 2024 in Boston was verified in the research pass, and that remains a gap, not a finding.

Why the 2027 shows matter

Oasis play Gillette Stadium on 10, 13 and 14 August 2027, three nights, marketed as Boston, in Foxborough. The angle is not a return to a famous Oasis venue. It is a scale jump with a long wait: rooms of a few thousand people and one 19,900 capacity amphitheatre in Mansfield, then no Oasis show in the Boston market as a band for more than two decades, no Boston show on Live '25 in 2025, and now three nights at a stadium that did not exist when the band first played Boston.

The article contrasts the 1995 Orpheum, with a capacity of about 2,675 in the Gigography, with a stadium show, without using the Orpheum capacity as an attendance figure. The second distinctive thread is the Boston versus Foxborough geography: the market is Boston, the stadium is in Foxborough, and the practical story is trains, driving and Patriot Place, not a city centre stadium walk.

The third thread is Gallagher solo continuity in Boston while Oasis was absent: Noel at the Wang in 2011 and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in 2023, Liam solo at House of Blues in 2017, and Beady Eye at House of Blues in 2011. That continuity is kept in a separate section, clearly labelled as not Oasis, so it does not blur the main finding. The 2027 lineup, gate times and a single capacity figure are not part of this Boston history.

Gillette history questions

Has Oasis played Gillette Stadium before?

Based on the archives and date ranges checked in this pass, we could not verify an earlier Oasis performance at Gillette Stadium. That is confirmed-none-found in the sources checked, not proof that no unlisted or private appearance ever happened.

Where is Gillette Stadium, in Boston or Foxborough?

In Foxborough, not in Boston itself. Boston is the market name, Foxborough is the venue location, about 22 to 25 miles southwest of downtown Boston depending on the source and measurement point. Do not write Boston's Gillette Stadium as if the stadium were inside Boston.

Where did Oasis play in Boston before 2027?

At Local 186 and Avalon in Boston in 1994 and 1995, at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston in 1995 and 2000, and at the Tweeter Center amphitheatre in Mansfield in 2001 and 2005. Mansfield is about 30 miles south of Boston and is repeatedly listed as Boston in tour records, but it is a separate venue.

Was an Oasis Boston show ever postponed?

A Boston Fleet Pavilion show on 10 August 2002 was postponed, not completed on that date, after a further medical examination of Noel Gallagher following a car accident found whiplash and shock, with complete rest ordered for three days. Did Liam or Noel play Gillette Stadium solo?

No. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Beady Eye and Liam Gallagher solo shows in Boston are separate projects. No Liam or Noel solo headline show at Gillette Stadium was found in the research pass.
